Types of Damages in Employment Disputes Cases

There are three types of damages available in a personal injury claim:

Economic damages

Florida law allows for economic damages, as the name suggests compensation for financial losses associated with suffering an injury such as medical expenses, loss wages and the loss of ability to earn income in the future.

Florida law allows recovery for non-economic damages including pain and suffering, mental anguish and loss of enjoyment of life.

The last type of damages, punitive, differs from the first two in that their main purpose is the punish the negligent party rather than compensate the injured party. As such they are not often awarded.

Common Types of Employment Disputes

Wrongful Termination

Termination without cause or in violation of employment contracts or Florida law.

Discrimination and Harassment

Workplace violations based on race, gender, age, disability, or other protected classes.

Wage and Hour Disputes

Claims for unpaid wages, overtime, or improper classification of employees.

Retaliation

Actions taken against employees for reporting violations or exercising their rights.
